Truckers vaccine mandate: CBSA makes last-minute reversal

The Canada Border Services Agency says some truck drivers will be exempted from the vaccine mandate that takes effect this weekend, although full details of the exemption remain unclear.

A Canadian Press Agency spokesperson said Canadian truck drivers who did not receive the vaccination, or who only received one dose, will not be required to quarantine.

Canada said earlier that it would require all truck drivers from the United States to provide proof of vaccination starting Saturday. The Canadian Trucking Alliance estimated that it could force nearly 16,000, or 10 percent, of cross-border drivers off the roads.

The case has raised concerns about the import of food and other essential goods across the border between the United States and Canada.
