The third podium of the season arrived for Italy in the Men’s Snowboard Parallel World Cup, at the giant’s final scheduled in Simonhohe (Austria). For the third time, the Azzurri climbed to the lowest rung on the podium, and the merit went to Roland Fischner, in a “small final” that saw him overtake Swiss Neven Galmarini in the final stages.
This is the 44th podium finish in Circuit 1 – second of the season after Cortina d’Ampezzo – for the 41-year-old South Tyrolean of Army Sports Centre. German Stefan Baumeister won the race ahead of Slovenian Tim Masnak. “I’ve never competed on this track – says Fischnaler -. I knew it was an easy slope, but for this very reason, it became very difficult to speed up: we did really well, putting us all in the top eight, even though we came up with a small team.
I’m happy with my performance since qualifying as I set the fourth fastest time and then the slightest mistake was penalized step by step. This race has given me a lot of confidence, I have mentally reached the state I was looking for in light of the Olympics, now it will be important to stay healthy and focus on the goal. Among the other Italians in the race are Aaron Mars’ fifth place and Gabriel Messner’s seventh place.
In the women’s field, without the blue at first, the victory went to Poland’s Alexandra Kroll, who defeated host Julia Dogmowitz in the “Grand Final”. In the “Little Final”, German Melanie Hochreiter mocked Russian Sofia Nadershina.
