Snam to implement metals production systems by using green hydrogen

Italy’s Snam and Tenova, the lead developer and provider of sustainable solutions for the green transition of the mineral industry, have agreed to conduct joint strategic studies and market analysis to implement specific systems for infrastructure and mineral production using green hydrogen, according to Snam’s trend reports.

The goal is to provide turnkey, industrial-tested, integrated commercial solutions to implement a significant reduction in CO2 and NOx emissions in the metal production process – from melting to processing semi-finished products.

Sanam will provide its expertise in hydrogen technologies as well as transportation, while Tenova will contribute with its expertise in the sector, more specifically in combustion systems for reheating and heat treatment, and in electric arc furnaces. The collaboration between the two companies will develop through specific tests in the laboratory under construction at Tenova’s headquarters (in Castellanza, Varese), and through installations and production tests at industrial sites.

With its expertise in hydrogen and transportation technologies, Sanam will be able to secure improved integration across the entire value chain, thus meeting the needs of the industry.
