What will we hear today in court?

Judge David O’Callaghan made a list of three things he wants to deal with today.

  • Confirmation of the order to transfer this hearing from the Federal Circuit and Family Court to the Federal Court
  • Procedural issues to be dealt with before tomorrow morning’s session
  • The question of whether this case should be brought before a single judge or a full court

So it sounds a bit procedural but stick with us.

Why is Novak Djokovic facing a second visa battle in court?

Something quite similar happened just a week ago.

On Monday, the Federal Court overturned a decision to revoke Djokovic’s visa on the grounds that the government’s decision was unreasonable under the circumstances.

But Immigration Minister Alex Hawke yesterday used his discretionary powers to cancel the visa “for reasons of health and public interest”.

Djokovic is seeking to overturn this decision, and here we are.

This comes after he was scheduled to meet with immigration officials and be detained this morning.
