Nigeria attacks toll climbs to 200 people dead, thousands displaced

Security patrols like the one pictured here in northwest Nigeria in October 2019 failed to stop deadly attacks by armed men.

Nigeria said on Sunday that militants have killed at least 200 people and displaced thousands more in multiple raids in the northwest over the past week, dealing a heavy blow to the authorities struggling to restore order.

Four residents told AFP on Saturday that over two days, armed men stormed the Anka and Pokoyom districts, killing at least 140 people.
