Mercato Pc, numeri in crescita per l’onda lunga del Covid – Hi-tech

The Computer, PC and Laptop segment is holding up well in terms of sales and shipping, given the prolonged restrictions imposed by Covid. According to the latest survey by research agency Canalys, which takes into account the last quarter of last year, 341 million units were shipped in 2021, with +15% in 2020 and +27% in 2019, the pre-Covid year. For analysts, there have been no such high numbers since 2012.

The best-selling devices remain those of the Lenovo brand, the brand most used by businesses and professionals, with a dedicated lineup for gamers. The largest growth is due to Apple, at +28.3% in 2020. This is not enough to make the Cupertino giant reach the third place in the rankings on shipments, which is occupied by Dell, behind HP. As Canalys explains: “Shipments in the fourth quarter of 2021 exceeded 90 million units for the second year in a row, with laptops registering a 16% increase in 2021 compared to 2020, with a total of 275 million units.

On the other hand, desktops increased by +7% in 2021 compared to 2020, totaling 66 million units. Analysts are aware of the continuing limitations of pandemic containment, with the Omicron variant growing, as the primary reason for purchasing new computers, for work and study, but also for entertainment purposes. “While 2021 was the year of digital transformation, 2022 will be the year of digital acceleration,” said Rushab Doshi, senior analyst at Canalys.
