The fires ravaging Colorado have already destroyed more than 500 homes, the mayor of Boulder County said, as the western US state suffers from a historic drought. “We know about 370 homes in Sagamore County have been destroyed,” Joe Bailey told a news conference. “It is possible that another 210 homes were destroyed in the Upper Old Town.”
At least 648 acres of green space went into smoke in Boulder County, and flames also reached hotels and malls. “I would like to stress the size and intensity of this fire and its presence in such a densely populated area: We would not be surprised if there are any injuries or deaths,” Sheriff Bailey warned.
