Handling of Novak Djokovic’s visa ‘great disgrace for Australia’

Opposition leader Anthony Albanese said the government’s handling of the visa issue of world number one tennis player Novak Djokovic was a “great embarrassment for Australia”.

“The rules are clear that you need to be double vaccinated in order to enter Australia and we still don’t have an explanation as to how the Australian government under Scott Morrison issued the visa in the first place,” he said.

The case for Djokovic’s deportation will return to court at 9:30 am on Sunday, with the tennis star still hoping to play in the Australian Open.
