South Australia recorded more than 5,000 new cases of Covid-19 and six deaths on Friday.

South Australia has recorded 5,679 new cases of Covid-19 and six more deaths.

Prime Minister Stephen Marshall, who was in isolation after his daughter tested positive, said 1,747 new cases were the result of positive rapid antigen tests returned.

About 246 people are in hospital and 20 are in intensive care.

Mr. Marshall said eight people were on ventilators.

On Thursday, health authorities announced that students will return to school on February 2, but classes will operate in a “hybrid” model of face-to-face learning and online classes.

Mr. Marshall is expected to reveal more details about the rules for close contacts and schools.

More is coming.
