Sun Lijun, a former deputy minister of the Ministry of Public Security, is on trial for accepting bribes, manipulating stock markets and illegal possession of weapons.
After the appointment of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (Spp), the People’s Procuratorate of Changchun, Jilin Province, examined Sun’s case and submitted it to the city’s Intermediate People’s Court. During the review phase, SPP informed Sun of his procedural rights under the law, questioned him and heard the opinions of his attorneys.
Now, therefore, Sun is accused of taking advantage of his various positions in Shanghai and the Ministry of Public Security in order to obtain advantages in exchange for “huge bribes”, as well as manipulating stock markets and illegal possession of weapons. .
Sun was arrested at the request of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate around the eve of last year’s Communist Party plenum (November 8-11), which paved the way for an unprecedented third term for President Xi Jinping, on charges of “taking bribes”. Sun, 52, appeared on TV with Xi while visiting Wuhan on March 10, 2020, while he was under investigation in April of the same year. On September 30, he was expelled from the party for “extreme political ambition”, working with others to “destroy the unity and political security of the party” and for establishing factions to control “some key administrations”.
