Brampton Transit to temporarily cut routes, reduce service amid COVID – Toronto

Brampton, Ont.; – Brampton Transit has temporarily canceled service on about 20 routes, citing staff shortages linked to COVID-19 and low passenger numbers.

The city northwest of Toronto says its transit agency will also reduce service on more than 20 other routes to ensure the system can continue to operate.

The city says the changes will take effect on January 17 and service will be restored as soon as possible.

The announcement comes days after regional transportation agency Metrolinx reduced service by nearly 15 percent across its network due to COVID-19.

Crown, which operates GO Transit, said staffing levels are up to 30 percent lower, on average, due to the rapidly spreading Omicron variant of COVID-19.
